Check a Lithuania VAT number

Include the country prefix. EU numbers are checked against VIES in real time, UK numbers with a separate live check.

How Lithuania VAT numbers are built

LT followed by 9 digits for legal entities or 12 digits for temporarily registered taxpayers and individuals.

Check digit

The last digit is a modulo-11 check digit. In 9-digit numbers the 8th digit is always 1, in 12-digit numbers the 11th. The validator checks both.

Common mistakes

  • The 9-digit company code (įmonės kodas) is a different number from the PVM code, even though both have 9 digits.

Is the number registered?

A valid format and check digit only mean the number could exist. Whether it is currently registered for VAT is known to the State Tax Inspectorate (VMI), and VIES asks that register for you. Where Lithuania shares them, VIES also returns the registered name and address.

Check a Lithuania number with the validator above, in the VAT number checker, or up to 50 at once with the bulk VAT validator.

Check Lithuania VAT numbers by API

The response says whether the format and checksum are valid and whether the number is registered, with name and address where Lithuania provides them.
