Check a Czech Republic VAT number

Include the country prefix. EU numbers are checked against VIES in real time, UK numbers with a separate live check.

How Czech Republic VAT numbers are built

CZ followed by 8 digits for legal entities (their IČO company number), or 9 or 10 digits for individuals (derived from the birth number) and a few special cases.

Check digit

8-digit numbers end with a weighted modulo-11 check digit, which the validator checks. For 9- and 10-digit numbers it checks the structure only.

Common mistakes

  • DIČ is the general Czech tax ID; only the DIČ of VAT payers is valid in VIES.

Is the number registered?

A valid format and check digit only mean the number could exist. Whether it is currently registered for VAT is known to the Financial Administration (Finanční správa), and VIES asks that register for you. Where Czech Republic shares them, VIES also returns the registered name and address.
